Visiting UW Honors

Interested in Visiting the Honors Program?

ATTN: The University Honors Program staff will be conducting all of our work remotely and the Honors suite (211 MGH) will be closed from March 9 – June 12, 2020 as a way to increase precautionary health measures, such as social distancing, and ensure the successful online completion of spring quarter for UW Students.

Honors staff will be available to assist those interested in applying in the future in several ways. Please use our prospective student appointment request form to tell us what your questions are and your preferred method of communication, and our staff will respond, either answering your question via email or and arranging to talk via the online communication platform, Zoom.

There are three ways to visit the Honors Program and learn more about the Interdisciplinary curriculum: Information Sessions, Group Visits, and Informational Appointments. Due to our small staff size we ask that you prioritize attending an information session before requesting an informational appointment (you will receive the same information at both) – thank you for your understanding!

Information Sessions

In the autumn leading up to the UW freshman application deadline we offer information sessions for those interested in applying to Interdisciplinary Honors as incoming UW freshmen. Information sessions for Autumn 2020 will be posted here in September 2020.

If you are a current UW freshman admitted for autumn 2019 and are interested in second year admissions to the Honors Program check back at the beginning of winter quarter for our second year information session dates.

Group Visits

Bring your high school art club, debate team, college prep class or other group (up to 35 people) to the UW Seattle campus for an information session about the Honors Program! To arrange a time for your group to visit please email with the subject line “Requesting Group Visit”.

Requesting an Informational Appointment

If you are not able to make it to our information sessions please complete our prospective student appointment request form to request an appointment. Please submit your request well in advance of your visit to increase our ability to accommodate your inquiry, and be aware that these appointments will cover the same material as our information sessions. Please note that in order to accommodate as many prospective students as possible, you may be joined by another prospective student and family during your informational appointment. Note: due to our small staff size we may be unable to accommodate your request.

Our autumn office hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.

Those interested in Departmental Honors should contact the major directly once they have enrolled at UW.

Questions About Visiting?

What Will My Visit with the Honors Program Include?

You will be meeting with one of the four Honors Advisers. Your visit will include a comprehensive overview of the UW Interdisciplinary Honors Program as well as information about Departmental Honors, and the various admissions options. There will be plenty of time to ask questions!

Do I Need to Bring Anything?

Nope, just your questions!

Where Will We Be Meeting?

If you are coming for an information sessions we will be meeting in Mary Gates Hall room 206. The Honors suite is located right next door in Mary Gates Hall, Suite 211.

Getting Here

  • Coming from the airport? Save time & money by taking the light rail!
  • Navigate like a student and take transit to UW! (Hint: find bus routes in Google Maps using your closest park and ride(s) and Mary Gates Hall as the destination.)
  • Driving to Campus? The closest parking garages to Mary Gates Hall are the Central Parking Garage under Red Square and the self-serve Padelford Garage (these can and do fill up, so you may be redirected to park by the stadium in the E lots; allow plenty of time to walk to Mary Gates Hall). Go here for parking information for visitors.

Can I Meet with the Honors Program Outside of Office Hours?

Sorry, the Honors Program is unable to meet outside of our regular business hours.

Should I Bring a Resume, CV or Portfolio?

Nope! While we appreciate the initiative, we ask that you please do not bring or prepare any materials (with the exception of a list of questions); remember this is an informational appointment, not an interview! If you’re eager to prepare, consider reviewing the links included in the signature of the appointment confirmation email or exploring our website directly.
