SUMMARY:Honors Huskies Outing - Unpacking Legacy Seattle Town Hall Lecture
DESCRIPTION:October 9\, 6:30 p.m.\, Seattle Town Hall.  \nJoin student leader Mary Hale and Honors Program Director Stephanie Smallwood for an Honors Huskies outing to this timely lecture: Unpacking Legacy: From the Personal to the Systemic with Dr. Uché Blackstock. \nIn this powerful and deeply personal talk\, Dr. Uché Blackstock explores the legacies that have shaped her journey—both personal and institutional. She reflects on following in her mother’s footsteps to medical school\, a path that made Dr. Blackstock and her twin sister the first Black mother-daughter legacy at the institution.  \nShe also confronts a broader\, systemic legacy—the entrenched racism woven into every aspect of the medical field. From disparities in medical education to the safety and well-being of BIPOC practitioners\, Dr. Blackstock sheds light on the urgent need for change within healthcare institutions.  \nOUR REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR THIS EVENT HAS PASSED\, BUT TICKETS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE AT TOWN HALL. JUST ARRIVE BY 6:15 AND LOOK FOR DR. SMALLWOOD IF YOU STILL WANT TO JOIN IN!
