    Celebrating my long-anticipated graduation with family and friends!

    Either finishing up my first year of law school or continuing my work with a local union. I don't quite know yet.

    Working in the realm of immigration policy to improve the rights of African immigrants in the EU. Traveling with my kids to show them an early taste of what I had the opportunity to experience during my study abroad trips.
    Please share any comments you have on the impact that Honors has had on your undergraduate experience:
    My classes with Clarke Speed vastly altered my world view and my ideas about what I wanted to do with my time at UW. If you get the chance to experience one of his classes (I took four!), go for it.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Don't be afraid to change your mind. It could end up being the best thing you do for yourself.

    In my particular case, honors has allowed me to participate in several amazing research projects that have helped me identify my interest in pursuing a PhD.

    Take advantage of all the opportunities presented to you as an undergraduate- study abroad!

    Where do you expect to be...
    ...one day after graduating?
    On a picnic at the University of Washington quad, eating cucumber sandwiches and drinking lemonade. I'll be with my husband, Cam, and my children, Sarah and Gary, kicking my heels and singing.
    ...one year after graduating?
    On a picnic at the beach, eating dungeness crab and drinking a little glass of champagne. Then I'll fly a kite.
    ...ten years after graduating?
    At sixty-three I'll be retired from Boeing, finishing my third novel, chasing grand-kids, picnicking in the Oregon Desert, eating hot dogs and drinking a cold beer.
    Please share any comments you have on the impact that Honors has had on your undergraduate experience:
    Honors gave me a sense of accomplishment. I felt that I was in the company of the brightest minds. I really enjoyed the opportunity to mingle with fellow students in Honors. Never dreamed I'd be here!
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    At 53, I can say: Don't give up. Stay with it, Honors undergrads. It's worth it.

    The experience of research and honors classes has stretched my thinking. If nothing else, I've become a critic and a problem solver.

    Go beyond just fulfilling the requirements and you'll have a boatload of fun.

    I don't like essays but I've enjoyed all my honors humanitites courses. I got to meet smart people and really think about topics I never looked into before. Also, research is a great experience.

    Plan out your schedule early. Start research early.

    Celebrating Father's day by making some breakfast and playing some golf.

    One of two things: working in Africa/S. America in a clinic, or working as an EMT and setting up for Medical School.
    ...ten years after graduating?
    Finishing all of the Medical Residency and settling down into a private Pediatric practice...and the whole kaboodle with family and fun and friends.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Take a Speed class! It's a very scary undertaking but it will radically alter your view on life.

    I will begin working at Ernst & Young in Seattle for an audit accounting internship.

    It allowed me to balance my business school classes with a large variety of other interesting topics, such as physics, evolution, human rights, and even video games!

    Participate in as many class discussions as you can, because those are what you will remember!

    From my freshman year, the Honors Program has provided a welcome home for me at UW. Leading an Honors Freshman seminar remains one of the most fun and most educational experiences I've had at UW.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    You should spend as much time hanging out with Brook and Aley as you can.

    Professor Popov is incredible! Made me realize that perhaps you need to be 70 years old to be that brilliant, so I shouldn't feel that bad about being 24 and quite stupid.

    Be more pompous. You need to be mentioning "thesis" in every conversation that you have.

    Please share any comments you have on the impact that Honors has had on your undergraduate experience:
    I earned College Honors in both of my Bachelor's Degrees. I enjoyed the breadth, depth, and intensity of the honors core curriculum, which included fascinating topics in philosophy, international studies, and environmental science. It gave me the opportunity to work one-on-one with my professors and to write two honors theses that sharpened my research and writing skills. My four years at University of Washington have been the best years of my life, and the honors program was truly what made it great!

    Always reach for the stars (Ad astra per aspera)!

    Part of my honor's experience was studying aboard through the honor's Rome program. Since then, I want to travel more and of course return to Itay for more gelato!

    Study aboard! Take any classes that you can with Clare Bright and Shawn Wong.

    The Honors core classes challenged and ultimately broadened my skill set and way of thinking, which was tremendously helpful in preparing me for the rest of my undergraduate education and beyond.

    Take advantage of the small class sizes and get to know the interesting and engaging professors.

    The Honors Program has put me in a challenging atmosphere with motivated individuals who quickly became some of my best friends at the University of Washington.

    Where do you expect to be...
    ...one day after graduating?
    At a reunion party for everyone who traveled to Cuba with me during winter quarter!
    ...one year after graduating?
    Working in a number of different capacties, keeping myself utterly busy as always. I'll be dabbling in editorial design / layout, cooking in a professional kitchen, and will be finishing up my second year as a journalism teacher at my old high school.
    ...ten years after graduating?
    Hopefully having decided which of the above professions I'd like to spend the rest of my life pursuing. I'll either be working my way up to be the art director of a major editorial publication, or the head chef at my own restaurant.
    Please share any comments you have on the impact that Honors has had on your undergraduate experience:
    The honors classes have been by far my favorites. The professors simply understand what it is that makes a great learning experience, and as a result I've found a place teaching at my old high school.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Play around, find several things you enjoy and dive into the deep end. Narrow things down later.

    Road tripping with my most cherished love ones, preferably to somewhere with a lot of coast and great food.

    Experiencing the ups and downs of the first year of med school down in lovely Portland, Oregon. You'd think I would be sick of school after 20 or so years of it...
    ...ten years after graduating?
    Somewhere pretty and not too warm that has a lot of good food, practicing pediatrics and, hopefully, still not taking myself very seriously.

    Honors was pretty sweet - I met a lot of really cool people through the English honors series who share my love for literature, criticism, and Smash Brothers Melee.

    Make the most of your time at UW! Do weird things - meet weird people! It's been awesome!

    Finishing my first year of teaching in Philadelphia with Teach For America!

    A stable professor job that allows me to teach, mentor students, and do research that either addresses educational disparities, discrimination, immigration policy, and so on. Hopefully, I've traveled to South America by then or completed a cross-country road trip in there. Being fluent in a few languages wouldn't be so bad either...
    Please share any comments you have on the impact that Honors has had on your undergraduate experience:
    Honors has allowed me to engage with so many social issues in an interdisciplinary fashion while still being able to focus on my own research and work closely with professors.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Respect yourself as a student. Have fun and work hard--they'll totally reinforce one another!

    Celebrating father's day with my family.

    In grad school! I'll be attending the Doctorate of Audiology program here at UW for the next four years.
    ...ten years after graduating?
    Hopefully, still here at UW teaching and doing research--two activities I truly have a passion for. Otherwise, I may pursue another path to be a clinical audiologist focusing on children with hearing loss and aural habilitation.

    Having intellectually stimulating classmates has been a plus and honors classes are often of interesting topics that you don't often find elsewhere. Plus free homework printing is a always good!

    Honors has had an immeasurable impact on my experience. From creating a seminar to going abroad to working on HSAP, support from Honors helped make me feel like I had a comfortable community at UW.

    While it has at times been difficult, I have really enjoyed being in the honors program. Some of my favorite classes have been honors, including my all time fav: Military strategy of World War II.

    I will be waking up on the couch of some fellow couchsurfers in London as I make my way to Bulgaria to learn how to properly throat sing. I'm also going to be seeing The Lord of the Rings musical that day. It's an action-packed trip, let me tell you.

    Who knows? Growing bacteria for graduate school money, most likely. Climbing mountains in New Zealand, most desirably.

    If I made a guess now, I'd probably be incredibly wrong. I've noticed that's the way of these things.

    Honors is much more than free printing (though that's really good, too). I've met incredible people who think in ways I could never imagine. I've been both bored to tears and blown away.

    Ask questions. If a prof says something that is Not Right (not just academically), question it!

    As my thesis delves deeper and deeper into the maniacal mind of Franz Kafka, there is a real possibility I'll wakeup in bed to find myself metamorphosed into a monstrous vermin. Let's hope my education does not come to that.

    In addition to living under a roof, I hope to be making media more relevant to young people. I'm heading off for an internship with PBS in DC this summer -- it remains to be seen exactly how this sojourn will inspire my next step.

    Hopefully still living under a roof, though I would not necessarily be adverse to the more uncertain lifestyle of a globetrotting journalist.

    The flexibility of the honors program allowed me to independently create my own education, but also provided a support network to help me realize my goals.

    Finished with my first year of my M.Div program at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA. By that time I will have learned Hebrew and Greek as well... that will be sweet.

    I can say without a doubt that in the future I will be serving God in pastoral ministry--in an urban environment like Seattle or Philly, wherever God will have me, preaching and pastoring; living the Gospel of Jesus.

    Honors was great because through the classes I found my best friends from UW. Departmental honors were also much deeper in content and value compared to other courses at UW.
