    Please share any comments you have on the impact that Honors has had on your undergraduate experience:
    The business honors capstone course really helped me sharpen my skills in strategic planning and critical thinking. Being surrounded by some of the brightest and most hard-working individuals who share similar dreams and goals definitely brings out the best in me.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    My advice is to stop stressing! Life is a lot more fun when you stop worrying about your grades, or that assignment thats due in 3 weeks. Enjoy hanging out and meeting new people-- you learn a lot more from your friends and classmates than from the professor.

    On a remote, tropical island doing field work that seems glorious to the rest of the world. But in actuality is the only vacation I get from the rest of the year's data analysis and grant proposal writing.
    Please share any comments you have on the impact that Honors has had on your undergraduate experience:
    Mentioning I was an honors student put me at the head of the line in everything from requesting admission to a full class to negotiating off-campus housing. When you are part of a group that is defined by being intellengent and responsible, people tend to trust you with more responsibility.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    When the system tells you 'no' go talk to someone in person. Sometimes all it takes is showing initiative to gain people's respect and cooperation.

    ... One day after graduating?
    Literally a day after graduation I will leave Seattle to the San Juans to work at Canoe Island French Camp where I will work this summer. I will be teaching photography in French in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
    ... One year after graduating?
    Working in France! I have been recommended by Fulbright to teach in France through the TAPIF program. Teaching English in Toulouse, France, I will be working and traveling in Europe the year after graduation, before returning to the US for grad school.
    ...Ten years after graduating?
    In ten years, I will be 32. By then, I will have finished my French PhD and be teaching French at a university. After some serious world traveling and graduate studies, I see myself settling down in the Pacific Northwest with a spouse and kiddies in tow- cooking, running and playing the guitar!
    Please share any comments you have on the impact that Honors has had on your undergraduate experience:
    Honors has helped me delve more into my field in that I grew closer to the faculty and explored to a greater extent my own research. I now am more prepared and more excited for my future profession and studies, getting a better feel for how this will pan out.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    The best things in life aren't things. Dive into your studies, but don't forget the importance of family and friends. People are the ones that you will love and cherish at the end of the day.

    Honors gave me the opportunity to shape my education so that it was perfectly tailored to my degrees. It also gave me the chance to teach my peers, and find a new passion in teaching.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Take classes that are outside of your field, it will either reaffirm what you love, or challenge you to love something new.

    Hopefully I will be somewhere on a beach enjoying the sun, with no worries about exams, homework, or working on my thesis!

    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Make the effort to really get to know your professors! Talking to my professors in my freshman and sophomore years helped open up lots of research and leadership opportunities for me later on. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you hit scheduling snags. There's usually a way around them. Have fun!

    This program gave me a truly ivy experience! The "small school" social environment, the top notch research, access to so many interesting classes with 30 students or less... truly, I would have been a fool to go to anywhere else!

    Don't waste a minute! This place is magical.

    The range of classes and the enthusiasm of professors allowed me to explore and become interested in a variety of topics that I might never have looked into otherwise.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Ad hoc projects are a great way to get to know your professors and get a deeper understanding of your favorite class topic; I wish I had done more!

    ... One day after graduating?
    After very excessively sleeping in, I'll be celebrating with family and friends. Even though classes will be finished, however, I'll be back to work in the lab on Monday. I'm very much looking forward to a final summer of research at UW.
    ... One year after graduating?
    I'll be finishing up my first year in the Biomedical Sciences Program at UCSF. It's hard for me to imagine living anywhere besides Seattle, but one year from now San Francisco will hopefully be a well established new home.

    I hope to be finishing up post-doctoral research at a university or institute in Europe, specifically England or France. I'd also hope to be continuing my artistic pursuits concurrently with my scientific pursuits.
    Please share any comments you have on the impact that Honors has had on your undergraduate experience:
    I would not be the individual I am today without Honors. Before joining Honors I had a vague understanding of my seemingly disparate interests, and could not imagine the relationship between them. Thanks to Honors I've developed a much more holistic view of my experiences and perception.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Honors is a privilege and an amazing opportunity. Take every chance you can to utilize the tools available to you through Honors to make yourself the strongest student and person possible.

    I will be training new beach lifeguards with my little brother, preparing for a summer of managing Clyde Beach Park in Bellevue.

    I see a huge, fluffy dog. And a grown up job.

    My desk will be cluttered with case files of kids I love (and probably some I hate), my tape recorder will be full of sessions with my after school clients, and my life will be infinite.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Don't work so hard in school you forget that these 4 years of your life actually count. Your life isn't a book full of chapters, it's a run-on sentence. It doesn't wait just because you tried to give it punctuation.

    The realization that I do not live in isolation, but in an interdependent society with highly individualistic people with different needs, and that one solution does not solve all problems and the search for better services and facilities in all areas is a continuing one.

    I liked that Honors classes offered many interesting foci and perspectives on topics I would probably not dive into otherwise. The assortment and variety helped keep things lively when requirements got dull!

    Get to know your professors and peers; they're the ones whom you'll ultimately learn the most from :)

    Celebrating with friends and family. I will then start working as a medical scribe in the ER of Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett.

    I will hopefully be entering medical school somewhere.

    Please share any comments you have on the impact that Honors has had on your undergraduate experience:
    It was a great community to come into as a Freshmen. I lived on Honors floors my first two years here and I really enjoyed it and made a lot of friends. My mind was blown a lot in my honors classes and I enjoyed how they made me think in a way that I had not thought before.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Take the exclusively Honors classes because they are cooler than the Honors section option. If you are doing research, start that as soon as possible. URP is helpful for that. Take at least one class with Frances McCue and Clarke Speede if you can.

    I thoroughly enjoyed my Honors experience. In particular, Professor Shields impressed me on every level; her willingness to help students grow and her timely return on midterm and final papers was unlike anything I have ever seen. She is an incredible asset to the UW English Department.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Don't be afraid to go push against tradition.

    Avoiding UW general education requirements is the best.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Work hard. Don't make excuses. A little effort can go a surprisingly long way. Time is valuable so treat it as such. If you know how to spend it you will have more than enough.

    Honors has inspired me to think in an interdisciplinary manner and has always assured me that I can do anything I put my mind to! Honors cultivated a community for me on campus that allowed me to explore my interests and have common acquaintances wherever I located myself academically on campus.

    Do everything you possibly can without going crazy! The University of Washington is completely filled with opportunities of all sort. If you have an idea or are passionate about something, there's a way for it to be done and someone to help you!

    Discussion-based honors core classes broadened my views and taught me about issues I had not even been aware of before. I also began undergraduate research early on because of encouragement from the honors program, which turned into one the most useful and stimulating aspects of my UW education.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Try out as many things as you can! Club sports, research, random student groups, and jobs that seemingly have nothing to do with your future. I never would have believed coming into UW what a large role these things would play in my college experience and how much they taught me about myself.

    "If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you." I encourage all current Honors undergraduates to leap out of their comfort zones and take great risks.

    I'll be in the ICU. Not because of partying too hard though - I'll be volunteering, helping out the amazing Nurses, HAs, Physicians, and other medical professionals at UWMC. Then after my shift I'll probably head out to play some volleyball with the gang.

    I'll be in Boston, working for the Cognitive Neuroscience Lab at Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital. By this point I'll be certified to run the MRI scanners on my own, and will be running participants through experimental protocols to figure out which parts of the brain talk to each other.

    Hopefully by this point I'll be done or close to done with an MD/PhD program and will be looking at post-doc/residencies in Neuroradiology or Neuropathology.
    Please share any comments you have on the impact that Honors has had on your undergraduate experience:
    Honors is what you make of it. There's a lot of opportunity if you want to take advantage of it, and I'll be honest - I often sought my opportunities elsewhere because I felt the Honors program was fairly restrictive at times. I did enjoy taking Honors Biochemistry.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    If you can help it - never take a class you don't love. Don't let the distinction of having 'Honors' on your transcript keep you in a place where you're unhappy or frustrated. There are SO many options at UW, and Honors is only one. Do what you love, and you won't regret it.

    My departmental honors group research project was one of the most valuable experiences I had in college. I learned so much about working in a group and got to take four years of classroom learning and apply it to the real world. I am extremely proud of the report we created.

    Do as much as you possibly can! It's impossible to try every class and club and weekend plan that you want to. Most of all, study abroad!

    The History Honors program provided a supportive and challenging environment for advanced research, while allowing me the autonomy of a self directed thesis on a topic I found fascinating. Out of all my academic experiences at UW, I felt the most at home in the Honors program.

    Cultivate relationships with faculty early and often. Develop research topics that genuinely excite you, and produce a product that instills that excitement in your audience. Turn off Netflix and read for fun, there is no better way to discover new interests and potential research leads.

    Honors as truly allowed me to delve more deeply into topics that I'm passionate about, even within other classes. It has also allowed me to connect with teachers and learn to analyze my classes at a higher level in order to integrate my learning throughout my degree.

    Don't think that "real life" doesn't start until you graduate school! Real life is what is happening RIGHT NOW, so don't miss out on it! And always keep in mind, you won't remember what score you got on that test 20 years from now but you will remember great times with great friends.

    I met life-long friends and discovered my love for travel through Honors.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Study abroad. Go somewhere you never considered before - take the road less traveled. It is not out of your reach when you have the honors program as a resource. Ecuador and Morocco made me want to become that "global citizen" that you hear about in essay prompts - you have to travel to become one.

    Have fun! Honors is a chance to sample new fields and get involved in a variety of coursework and extracurriculars (study abroad, experiential learning, etc.), so take this opportunity to do something just because you're interested in it, without worrying about what requirements it can fulfill.

    Does anyone really know? I was at an Awards Dinner for Chemistry and I can't remember who it was, but a very knowledgeable alumnus told me not to settle for a goal today, but always to prepare yourself for a position that you don't even know exists yet, the best is still yet to come.

    The Honors Program forced me to expand my horizons in disciplines that I never would have considered studying, including the penal system, creativity, the Triune God, and the University itself. These experiences have only enriched my education here at the UW, and I am glad to have those experiences.

    The heart of the Honors Program is not the classes, nor the opportunities abroad, but it is the community that you have the chance to form with some really amazing people. So talk to each other, find out what others are all about, where they have been, what they have experienced. It is worth it!

    I felt that I have had the pleasure of experiencing a high level of learning that really has boosted my skills both in the academic field as well as in the office. I created my own capstone project from scratch and that has really helped me become confident in moving forward with my career goals.

    The honors math (13x) and physics freshman year were a challenging and humbling experience. I think some of my success in future technical courses was due to the high standards that I was expected to meet in these classes.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Divorce your personal identity and happiness from your academic performance. If you challenge yourself enough, you *will* struggle at some point. This is strongly encouraged! There is a lot more to life than getting the highest grades or proving to yourself that you are smarter than your peers.

    Go some place you'd always heard of; talk to someone you think you may not like; learn from kids half your age and twice your age.     Joining the group honors thesis in LSJ was the best decision I have made in college. I learned so much, gained valuable practical skills, and made amazing friends.

    Go to office hours. Get off campus. Don't stop doing what you love. Take classes you never thought you'd be interested in. Get enough sleep. Give back to your community, whatever that community may be. Be friendly to everyone. Study abroad.

    College Honors helped enable me to have an open mind, as it kept me taking classes outside of my major, and doing projects within it that took me beyond the course material my peers were learning.

    Take honors classes that aren't related to your major. Expand your horizons/viewpoints by mixing with the honors community that is different from your major's community. And own that "honors" mindset - push yourself to go beyond what is required, in all aspects of life - you'll get a lot out of it!

    Coming into the University of Washington as a transfer student, participating in the Honors Program gave me the opportunity to be part of a smaller community of scholars. The holistic nature of the program influenced my own decisions to engage in service learning and study abroad experiences!

    Make sure to take time for yourself - to think and reflect on who you are and what motivates you. That might sound silly but it is something that I didn't make the time for as an undergrad and I already wish that I had.

    In a state of bliss, and in San Francisco spending much-needed time with my family doing nice things in the sun. I'll finally have the time to take on my list of books to read - a list that has been growing monstrously as what I knew I didn't know increased the more I read and learnt in school.

    Perhaps gallivanting around the world in search of jobs that will not pay very much but will let me experiment with different skills, talents, ideas, and passions. I'll most likely be in Mexico initially to tie up loose ends of my research and then in different parts of Asia to work and live.

    Living somewhere with cheap food, blue skies, chickens in my backyard, and the smell of fresh grass after a downpour. I will also have a job that involves good coffee, tons of walking, justice, writing, and meaningful interactions with people of different stripes.

    The Honors program taught me how to learn. It also showed me why intellectual promiscuity can be a very good habit of mind to have. Not every Honors class changed my life, but the ones that did made me see the world in profoundly and refreshingly new ways.

    1. Learn to use language with precision and sophistication. 2. Be fierce and unpredictable when pursuing UW's myriad of opportunities. 3. Say thank you to the folks doing the invisible work in school - who take out your trash, clean the toilets, replenish the toilet paper supply, etc.

    I was a transfer student, and getting involved in the Honors community soon after I got to UW helped me enormously! Thanks to departmental Honors I got to know an amazing group of people within my major program, expanding my social horizons tremendously. I loved growing academically with my peers.

    The work I did on my Honors thesis made me an attractive candidate for grad school, and I feel prepared to begin my newest academic challenge this fall. Think of Honors as a stepping-stone, a mini-grad school. But most of all: push yourself! You have an awesome support community!

    Ten years after graduating I will mostly likely be working as an Elementary school teacher and will have a family of my own. But my dream is to tell people about God all over the world; to go where there is struggle and despair, and to help those in need.

    Being in departmental honors really pushed me academically. I was stretched in my abilities and challenged in my limits. I had amazing opportunities to take graduate level courses, which allowed me to meet experienced professionals and learn not only from the professor,but from the students also.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    My advice would be to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Honors program. Take difficult classes, challenge yourself, explore topics that you are interested in,and meet faculty who are doing work that intrigues you. But at the same time stay healthy and get enough sleep!

    I have always been very resistent to research...until I did my projcet for Honors. With my mentor's support, I found aspects of research that I like. Now, I find myself consideirng other research projects I could pursue. I feel more open to future opportunities.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Be part of something bigger than you. Always work a little bit outside of your comfort zone - that is where you grow! Appreciate every emotion (even the bad ones) and take care of yourself.

    Do not take your experience with Honors for granted. You can be as involved (or not) as you would like, but the most important thing is to try before you make a decision. Enjoy the different experiences available to you while you're in college - they may be more exciting than you think.

    English Departmental Honors gave me a community of mentors, friends, and colleagues. My Honors classes were the most rewarding ones I had, and challenged me in the best way possible to become an even better student and stronger writer. I have the utmost respect for my Honors teachers and classmates.

    Take advantage of all the opportunities the program offers: academic and professional ones, but also social ones. While the program was invaluable to me as a student and scholar, it would not have been as incredible as it was without all of the amazing people I got to know because of it.

    Some of the most interesting and engaging classes I took at UW were Honors Civ classes. Having the opportunity to learn from knowledgeable professors about fascinating topics that I would not have come across otherwise was a great experience.

    Challenge yourself to seek out classes on topics that are unfamiliar to you. The worst that can happen is you drop it in the first week, but you may discover a field of study that will capture your interest for years to come.

    I have the opportunity to learn more about a specialized part of my major that is only covered in one hour in lecture. The most rewarding part of my experience, however, is applying what I have learned in class to my research and having that contribute to something bigger.

    If you don't have time, make time. Don't let a single opportunity to have fun at an event pass because you have a project or "study" for class. It is the experiences from the people that you meet and have from going to events that allow you to grow as an individual and become more knowledgeable.

    Honors exposed me to so many different topics and disciplines I wouldn't have learned about otherwise, and I am extremely grateful for that. It has sparked my interest in topics, particularly public education, that I predict will influence my hobbies outside of my career.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    When I first started in the Honors program, I undervalued the opportunities it offered. I thought that because I knew what my major would be I didn't need to worry about other classes. (So naive!) Take advantage of every class that piques your interest, because this is the last chance you'll have.

    Completing the Honors requirements at the UW has enabled me to get more out of my education than academic abilities. I have learned how to push myself mentally, physically and emotionally even when I felt discouraged. I have learned the benefits of striving to do more and be more than the minimum.

    It is worth it to push yourself even though it may be scary to take on so many things. When incredible opportunities come up, take them! Remember to view your activities and academic endeavors as opportunities to learn skills and grow as a person instead of items on a checklist for a degree.

    Alternating between playing videogames in my apartment and writing my novel.

    In a Cornell dorm room, relieved to have successfully made it through the first year of law school!

    Alternating between handling an international law case in my office and negotiating the movie rights to my book series.
    Please share any comments you have on the impact that Honors has had on your undergraduate experience:
    Being able to work in an environment full of people and ideas more closely attuned to my own interests has given me the drive to delve into English texts and projects with some rich intellectual potential.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Just because you *can* put the work off doesn't mean you should! Also, out-of-class peer reviews are your friend, if only to ease your mind.

    ... One day after graduating?
    In my car, driving in some direction towards something. I'll bring some books, some writing materials, and just brainstorm with myself. What's next?
    ... One year after graduating?
    Doing freelance videography, and working in a cinema related environment. Hopefully working my way up. Until then, I'd sweep popcorn off the ground between aisles if it means I get to live around the cinema.
    ...Ten years after graduating?
    Writing for a living. Or some other tragic mistake. Maybe I'll be married? If so, my wife probably crushed my dreams by now and I'll probably have ended up working in real estate. That's always been a guilty pleasure, anyway.
    Please share any comments you have on the impact that Honors has had on your undergraduate experience:
    My work through the departmental Honors program in Cinema Studies has allowed me to grow closer to the faculty here, and meet the minds that I so aspire to be when I continue to pursue the connection between production and academia in cinema.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    It isn't only in books or through advisers that we do our research; consider yourself a constant learner always analyzing people and things. Make yourself available for study, and keep the definition of 'study' open to interpretation. Honor your life the way you honor your studies.

    Having the opportunity to write a senior thesis really allowed me to understand the full scope of my undergraduate research. Because of this experience, I am currently working as a research scientist exploring more about cancer research.

    Be proud of yourself and continue doing what you love.

    The interdisciplinary focus in the courses offered by the Honors department opened my mind to different approaches to thinking about things. Collaboration between fields can produce greater insight than by only considering things one way.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Take courses outside of your major and general field! The University has so much knowledge to offer, and you'll learn more about yourself and the world when you explore as much as possible.

    ... One day after graduating?
    I'll be on the flight back home one day after graduating.
    ... One year after graduating?
    I'll be at Cornell University for PhD study in Statistics starting this fall.
    ...Ten years after graduating?
    Hopefully I can finish my PhD degree in five years. After that I'll be excited to get into the job market. Ten years after graduating, I wish I can stay with my family, either in the US or back home in China.

    The Economics Honors Program expanded my horizon on economics issues and brought me opportunities to get involved in research on the subject that interested me.

    Celebrating with friends, family, and exorbitant amounts of delicious food. Reflecting upon the past four years with an already-developing sense of nostalgia, wondering where the years ahead will take me.

    Perhaps enjoying a latte somewhere across the world, getting ready to attend medical school in the fall with a renewed sense of direction and passion for all that life has to offer.

    Enjoying life whether that may mean practicing as a physician, traveling the globe, or raising a family (or all three!). Regardless, I hope to be happy with where I am and what I'm doing.

    Honors has broadened my interests by urging me to pursue courses I would not have pursued otherwise; it has been a fantastic opportunity to gain insight into different disciplines and push my learning to a greater depth.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    There are so many incredible opportunities available - within Honors, UW, and beyond. Take advantage of them! Don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. Also, the Honors community is filled with brilliant students from diverse backgrounds. Get to know them!

    Breaking into my long-forgotten paints and canvases, and catching up on reading.

    Hopefully I'll be an attorney dealing with new ideas and information - protecting privacy and/or guaranteeing open access. I also hope that I'll never stop traveling.

    Honors allowed me to take classes I would never have considered before, and to branch out and explore topics in science, philosophy, and film. Some of my greatest learning experiences were ones I never expected.
    Do you have any advice for current Honors undergraduates?
    Take advantage of internship and job opportunities relevant to your field. You never know if something is for you until you experience it. Also, seek out opportunity - it's not always presented to you. Usually the best opportunities are those you've taken the time to search for.

    Celebrating with friends and family, then back to the grind!

    One year from now I will have finished my first year of graduate school at the UW's School of Environment and Forest Resources studying ecology and conservation. Hopefully I will be starting my PhD project after months of classes and grant writing!

    Ten years from now I will be finishing my postdoctoral research and possibly become an adjunct professor and member of a nonprofit. I will continue to contribute advanced research that builds our existing knowledge base and concurrently makes the world a better place.

    Being an honors student has propelled me to participate in extensive academic, research, and hands-on experiences. I have pushed myself as a student, teacher, and person - the hard work was definitely worth the rewards!

    Plan ahead, make connections, challenge yourself, and have fun!
