Connect/View ProfileHi there, it's great to meet you! My name's Gargi and I'm a freshman majoring in Computer Science. UW's CS program is awesome, but it can be difficult to take STEM classes all day every day. That's why I love being a part of the Honors program. It lets me explore the Humanities in different ways, through classes and discussions, and brings balance to my class schedule every quarter. More than classes, though, the best part of the Honors program is the community. They empower you to achieve your goals, and have fun while you do it! I'm so glad you're interested in joining the Honors program, and I would be more than happy to get in touch and answer your questions through email or Zoom. Have a great day!

I am originally from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, but moved to Washington State when I was 10 years old. To this day, I credit my life in Honduras as the foundation of values and aspirations that drive my passions for leadership and public health to advocate on behalf of underrepresented communities. I love traveling and driving with no destination in mind, just letting my subconscious take me to new adventures. More than anything, I love meeting new people, trying new foods, and spending time with my loved ones. Those closest to me would often describe me as driven and ambitious but also kind-hearted and a little silly. As this is my fourth year at the UW, I have a very diverse perspective on what the Honors Interdisciplinary Program is like. I also have varied experience getting connected to opportunities on campus, as I have been part of the ASUW Ambassador Program, the Latinx Student Union's Advocacy Committee, and now the the pre-health fraternity Delta Epsilon Mu. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about my experience at the UW or if you just want to connect, I would love to chat!

Outside of class, I'm no stranger to the occasional TV/movie binge whether it be working my way through The Mandalorian or just about anything Marvel related. I also enjoy going on hikes, learning to cook new things, listening to Andy Grammer, and exploring the city! Like many others, my first year was definitely affected by COVID, but joining the honors program has still been one of my best decisions. The honors classes that I have taken so far have been integral to finding the issues I care about by integrating two fields I love: neuroscience and public health. I hope that you all find your own unique passion within the honors program as well! My name is Bao Han, and I'm currently a third-year Interdisciplinary Honors student double majoring in statistics: data science and human evolutionary biology with a minor in bioethics. My long term goal is to work in biostatistics or health data science. While I can now confidently say I love math and my major, I initially came to UW intending to do pre-med biology! I was a bit all-over-the-place during my freshman year when it came to deciding what I wanted to study, but it's totally okay and all part of the college process. Through the statistics and applied math departments' mentorship programs, I've been able to gain experience in survival analysis and computational finance research! I also am a mentor myself for Mentor Power for Success, a program offered through the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity to help first year students transition to life at UW. In addition to my classes, some RSOs I'm involved with at UW include the Statistics & Probability Association, the Vietnamese Student Association, Vietnamese dance, and Chi Sigma Alpha, an Asian-interest sorority. In my free time, I love trying new boba shops, going to concerts, and romanticizing my life. I am super grateful for all the opportunities, communities, and people I've been introduced to at UW, so feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Connect/View ProfileHi! My name is Isabel, I also go by Isa :) I'm a First Year pre-nursing student here at the UW. I also love taking American Ethnic Studies courses - whether that turns into a Double Degree or a minor, I guess we'll have to wait and find out! I will be applying to UW's nursing school in the Fall and hope to begin my Nursing School journey at UW soon! Some of my hobbies include cooking for my roommate, reading domestic thrillers, participating in UW's soccer intramurals, running, and spending time with family. I also am a part of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life Club :) I decided to join the Honors program because I was a bit nervous at how big UW is and wanted to be a part of a smaller community. Not only have I felt the welcoming warmth from the Honors group, but some of my favorite classes have been Honors classes. Please reach out if you have any questions or just want to chat!

Major(s): Intended Law, Societies, Justice and Global Studies
Hometown: Evanston, Illinois
At UW since: 2022
Connect/View ProfileHello Honors community! My name is Jaya, and I am a first-year student intending to double-major in Law, Societies, Justice and Global Studies. I'm from Evanston, Illinois originally, so the PNW is a nice change of pace from the Midwest! I am a peer educator for Interdisciplinary Honors, Director of my residence hall's Hall Council, and hope to go to law school after UW to pursue Human Rights Law. My interests outside of school include reading (lots of James Baldwin), going to concerts, and playing guitar. If you want to chat about the Honors program, pre-law pathways, or being an out-of-state student, please reach out :)
