Honors 205

What We Know and How We Know It

  • Enhanced student (and instructor) knowledge and skills of disciplinary discourses
  • Varied writing practices through different genres
  • Heightened awareness of one's roles as a writer within a learning community

Since academic disciplines are bound by their respective ways of knowing, and because other ways of knowing are empirical and creative, this course will present different ways of coming to knowledge. Through reading, lectures, dialogue, persuasive writing, journalistic writing, writing for academic papers and by writing poems, short stories and memoir pieces, students will develop a repertoire of strategies to understanding and representing their ways of knowing.

Students will learn how to negotiate and navigate different ways of knowing; develop empathic and creative imagination; enhance their writing through peer review, teacher feedback, and revision; create and participate in models for civic dialogue; and reflect on and articulate individual learning.
