The Joff Hanauer Professor of Western Civilization was established by Jerry Hanauer in 2007 to foster community among and around scholars at the University of Washington. The UW Honors Program is deeply grateful to be the seat of this professorship, as it connects UW students across many disciplines through curriculum and experiences that promote engaged global citizenship. Our current Hanauer Proffessor, Dr. Daniel Bessner, associate professor in the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, is a highly-accomplished scholar of U.S. foreign relations. Dr. Bessner is a frequent contributor to public forums and is popular among students for his passionate engagement with a breadth of complex histories and current issues.
