The Post-Bachelor Fellowship (PBF) is an interdisciplinary health research program at the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) where individuals can advance the field of health metrics and accelerate global health progress. This fellowship provides a unique opportunity for recent college graduates to train with University of Washington faculty and senior researchers on a variety of health projects, ranging from econometric modeling to epidemiological analysis to advanced data science and statistical innovation. The two-year fellowship can be extended for a third year for those who choose to pursue a fully-funded masters-level degree. The program also includes international travel and networking opportunities with IHME alumni working all over the world. Former PBF graduates have pursued careers in medicine, statistics, data science, global health and development, economics, and private sector work. Former UW Honors Program graduates who joined the PBF program have included Krycia Cowling (BS, Public Health, 2007; PhD from Johns Hopkins, 2017), Spencer James (BS, Biochemistry, 2009; MD from Dartmouth, 2016), Marlena Bannick (BS, Public Health, 2016; MS, Biostatistics at UW, 2019), and Charlton Callender (BS, Microbiology, 2016; MPH at UW, 2019).
