ACCEPT/DECLINE UW HONORS WAITLIST OFFER NOW
We are aware of pending deadlines and recognize that choosing a college is an important and often difficult decision to make. We also know that being offered a spot on the waitlist for the Honors Program may generate questions and that the answers may help you make your decision as to accept the offer or not. This page is a resource to provide answers and help you understand what the Interdisciplinary Honors waitlist means.
First, we wish to remind you that all students attending the University of Washington, whether or not they are enrolled in the Honors Program, share a common, primary identity as a Husky. All students attending the University of Washington will take traditional UW classes as the majority of their coursework and should be excited to be at UW. Interdisciplinary Honors Program students will satisfy about a quarter of the overall coursework required to graduate from UW through the Honors Program and will take the remaining courses outside of Honors, alongside non-Honors students. Additionally, Honors is only one of many communities that Honors students belong to. All of this is to say – if you are struggling to make a decision, we advise you to:
- First, decide if UW is a school where you envision yourself for four years. We recommend exploring the UW New Huskies website to aid in this decision.
- If the answer is no, a later Honors admission decision is unlikely to change that impression. Therefore, we recommend accepting enrollment at a university where you are more likely to thrive.
- You MUST accept the offer to attend the UW AND the Honors Waitlist offer to be consider for admission off the Waitlist to Interdisciplinary Honors. If you do not accept your UW offer of admission by May 1 in addition to accepting this Honors waitlist offer, we will not consider you should we be able to go to our Honors waitlist.
- If you see yourself being happy at UW and choose to enroll, it’s important that you accept your Honors waitlist offer by May 1. You will be notified about your final Honors admission decision between June 1 and July 1.

ACCEPT/DECLINE UW HONORS WAITLIST OFFER NOW
If you are not invited into Interdisciplinary Honors off the waitlist, there are other ways for you to participate in the UW Honors community:
- Each spring quarter, we accept applications from current first-year UW students and issue invitations to those who demonstrate interest in an interdisciplinary education as well as academic excellence during their first two quarters at the university. Current UW students can apply to Interdisciplinary Honors via Second-year Admissions.
Second-year Admission - Departmental Honors is an Honors option that students typically apply for when they enter a major. Departmental Honors is an excellent opportunity for deep disciplinary engagement, providing academic challenges and a scholarly community within your major area of interest.
Departmental Honors - Any UW student may enroll in an Honors course on a space-available basis after the initial registration period each quarter. Additionally, some Honors courses are available to all students, regardless of participation in Interdisciplinary Honors. Enrollment in these courses depends on a student’s qualifications and aptitude in the subject matter. Honors chemistry, math, and physics are examples of these types of courses. Your assigned UW academic adviser can provide more information about these courses during your Advising & Orientation session, or feel free to contact the Honors Program for more information after your A&O session.

Frequently asked questions
Q: Can I appeal my admission decision?
A: No, we do not accept appeals. Our admissions committee reviews each application extensively and methodically with careful consideration for each applicant’s interest in the Interdisciplinary Honors curriculum and preparation for undertaking the required work.
Q: Is your waitlist ranked?
A: We do not rank our waitlist. After June 1, we revisit all of the original applications from students who accepted our offer to remain on the waitlist AND who accepted the UW offer of admission and review them for any spots we have available at that time.
Q: How likely am I to be invited from the waitlist?
A: The likelihood of being admitted is difficult to predict as it varies every year based on multiple factors external to the Honors Program’s control. On average, we are able to admit fewer than 10% of the students on our waitlist.
Q: Can I submit additional materials for consideration to increase my chance of admission?
A: No, we do not accept supplemental materials, in an effort to keep our evaluation process as fair for all students as possible.
