The Honors Program is delighted to announce a paid learning opportunity this academic year, supported by the UW’s Career Internship Development Fund.

An Honors Digital Communications Intern will have the opportunity to amass practical, professional experiences and to generate published portfolio pieces while working a hybrid schedule as a temporary, part-time member of our staff. Because this role requires familiarity with UW Honors’ values and culture, we are recruiting applicants with Honors experience. Job Description

UW Honors Digital Communications Intern

Average weekly hours: 8-12 (up to 218 total hours)

Location: Hybrid, some hours in Mary Gates Hall

Compensation: $20/Hr 

The Honors Program is expanding equitable student opportunities and meaningful community connections at the University of Washington. Current students are invited to apply for an internship supporting news, events, community projects, web publishing, and other communications for a variety of audiences. 

Honors’ Digital Communications Intern will gain practical experience in a professional setting through a variety of projects and responsibilities. Specific projects and learning objectives will be determined collaboratively between student and mentor during the first two weeks of the internship. 

Basic duties (depending on skills and interests) may include:

  • Be a staff liaison for public engagement projects with a variety of community partners
  • Coordinate publication of student & faculty stories and artifacts
  • Draft email correspondence, articles, letters, phone scripts, web pages, one-pagers, event fliers, social media posts, etc.
  • Craft/send weekly Honors announcements, including updating the announcements blog
  • Create, organize, improve accessibility and update content of web pages, artifacts, and other digital communications tools
  • Monitor Honors social media and create new posts (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • Write some code (HTML) and perform small-scale web management 
  • Use WordPress, Canva, Photoshop, and other design and publishing tools to create graphics
  • Serve as an ambassador for the UW’s Honors Program in a variety of settings

Required qualifications

  • Enrolled in undergraduate studies at the University of Washington during 2023-2024 academic year
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
  • Ability to work in Mary Gates Hall part time

Desired qualifications

  • Familiarity with WordPress or similar online publishing platforms
  • Pursuing Interdisciplinary and/or Departmental Honors with your degree
  • Graphic design experience and/or interest in practice using Canva
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and desire to learn more and gain practice
  • Photography/videography skills
