Apr 15, 2010

Hello Honors Students!

Are you involved in experiential learning that you’d like to share with your peers? If you’ve recently completed a research, leadership, volunteer, or global engagement project, consider applying to present at the 2010 Honors Colloquium!

This event gives Honors students the opportunity to share their achievements with their peers. While the Colloquium has traditionally been dedicated exclusively to research, this year it will be expanded to showcase all kinds of experiential learning. Examples of the types of projects that will be showcased at the 2010 Honors Colloquium include:

  • Academic research, whether conducted in a lab, independently, or in the field
  • Service learning experiences or extended volunteer projects
  • Leadership projects
  • Experiences in global engagement and study abroad

If you have a project that you’ve been working on that you are dedicated to and passionate about, share it with your peers! The Colloquium provides experience in presenting academic and service-oriented work and offers the opportunity to learn about the work being conducted by Honors students from across the disciplines.

Students may present a poster or give an oral presentation. Oral presentations are approximately ten minutes long with five minutes following for questions. Applications are welcome from students in both college and departmental honors and from all departments.

You will be asked to provide the following information in the Catalyst survey:

  1. Name, major, and year at the UW
  2. Project Title
  3. Mentor and Department
  4. Abstract, max. 300 words (for help, check out the UW Undergraduate Research Program's Abstract Writing page)
  5. Whether you would like to present a poster or give an oral presentation
  6. Any additional questions or comments

Applications are due April 17. Please submit your application via Catalyst survey. Please contact HSAP if you have any questions. We look forward to receiving your applications!

The Colloquium will take place on Wednesday May 12th 5-8:30 in MGH 241. There will be a brief reception followed by oral and poster presentations from many academic fields - free food will be provided! Hope to see you there!
