Proudest Moment: My fondest moment was studying abroad in Italy in Spring 2022 and learning about food anthropology, culture, and politics. Upon returning back home, I feel my time abroad has enriched my understanding on artisanal food production and how to support local sustainable agricultural farms.
I hold immense pride, gratitude, and happiness as I graduate UW with majors in Honors Public Health-Global Health, Medical Anthropology and Global Health, Anthropology of Globalization. Reflecting back on my college years, I feel I have made the most of my time and cherish all the wonderful friendships formed, classes taken, and experiences that I've encountered. After participating in the UW Summer Health Professions Educations Program in 2019, I learned a lot about how intersectionality relates to health outcomes and the power that our voices and actions have towards enacting real systemic change. This experience has inspired me to pursue public health and volunteer in underserved communities in Guatemala. After graduation, I hope to continue to learn ways to advocate for socially just health policies and equity.

Proudest Moment: Seeing students learn to love CS and even become TAs themselves :)))
Interdisciplinary learning has been central to my college career, from honors and my informatics degree to my various pursuits outside of classes. Since joining UW early through UW Academy, I've learned to lead, mentor, and advocate for accessibility and inclusivity. And although 16-year-old me never thought I'd enjoy programming, I've now TA'd for nine quarters and love making CS fun, interesting, and approachable for novices and people who wouldn't otherwise have seen themselves in tech. I'm so grateful to the many communities I've been a part of and to have been recognized as one of the Husky 100, and I'm excited to return to Microsoft as a software engineer this fall!

Proudest Moment: Presenting my research project on Motivation and Spinal Cord Injury in Rats at the Mary Gates Symposium! I dedicated a lot of time to designing my assays, completing the experiments, and doing statistical analysis.
I'm grateful that UW has allowed me to explore my interests in academics but also channel my passions for other topics as well. Growing up, I always had a love for science. I loved the complexity of the human body and the inner workings of the brain. As I carried my educational experiences into college, I also developed a great appreciation for psychology. I have become a strong advocate for mental health through my role as a resource coordinator at Pup Support, a mental health advocacy group but also a support group leader with NAMI Seattle. Being able to wield my education and experiences in communities is such a privilege and I hope to encourage others to be strong advocates as well! After graduation, I will be working in the Emergency Department as a medical scribe and continue my research in the Moorjani Lab studying motivation and spinal cord injury. Eventually, I hope to apply to medical school and pursue my passion of becoming a physician! My time at UW has been unforgettable and I will always remember the great memories here!

Proudest Moment: When I finished my proposal at the Swedish Hospital Simulation Center talking about incorporation of ethics into their Nursing Simulation Programs, and when I saw the changes that I made impacting the community that I identify with must be the proudest moment.
Hi, I am Nathan and I am from Daejeon, South Korea. I also call Puyallup home, as that is a town that I spent most of my time in high school. I am a graduating senior here at the University of Washington, majoring in Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Ethics with a focus and minor in bioethics. I came into college thinking that I know exactly what I want to study and what I want to do after college. However, I was very naïve to think that. The experience at the University have changed me so much. Especially the Honors program, which opened my eyes and taught me that the college is about finding your own journey, not choosing from one of many pre-set experiences. I aspire to be some kind of a doctor or a scholar that discuss the existing problems in healthcare. However, I am taking a gap year before moving on to the next step.

Proudest Moment: Being selected for a Clarendon Scholarship to study philosophy of physics at Oxford (also up there: getting a chocolate bar from a student who appreciated my CLUE discussion section).
My experience at UW has been great for a bunch of different reasons. I've learned a lot of physics and philosophy, up to and including quantum field theory, our best experimentally confirmed theory of the universe. In philosophy I've been a tutor, reading group leader, and journal editor. In physics I've done research on dark matter and quantum information, and am hoping to do some theoretical biophysics this summer before leaving for grad school. Having grown up Wallingford (I could see UW from my elementary school... and walked to orientation), I have been able to keep ties with my neighborhood community. This means that outside of class I've been a nanny back in Wallingford on the weekends, and have able to keep playing Shona music (under students of Dumisani Maraire), which I've been playing since I was a kid. I plan on continuing to engage with foundational questions using the conceptual tools of philosophy and empirical tools of physics. For example some questions I'm interested in are: "How is it possible for us to understand subjective experience or consciousness as fitting into the mechanistic framework of physics?", "How can we build better apparatuses or simulators to empirically probe foundational questions?", and "How can we use frameworks like information theory or other physics tools to understand regularities in biophysical systems?"

Hello! My name is Natasha! As my time at the UW comes to a close, I think about the friends that I have made and the experiences that I have learned from, especially during a pandemic. In that time, I have learned so much about myself and how important my community is to me. Whether it is jumping into the fountain with my friends or being an extra on a television show, there have been endless memories that I know I will cherish many years from now, each of which have gotten me to this point. Being a peer adviser, finishing my honors research, speaking at a mental health event for an internship, receiving a president's medal, and bartending for a lab: all of these things would not have been possible if it was not for the support system and community that I have behind me. Moving forward, I hope to continue to support mental health endeavors within marginalized populations and allow space for these conversations within my own communities. After passing the C1 level Spanish fluency test, I will continue to expand access to STEM resources through translation and bilingual education. As I continue to expand my understanding of medicine as a daily practice (rather than something exclusively available in a medical office), I am excited to navigate life beyond the lecture hall of the beautiful campus.

Proudest Moment: I\'m probably most proud of the impact I made as a research volunteer, particularly during my first summer of in-person work after I was vaccinated. By that fall, I was certain that I wanted to pursue a career in research!
Hi! My name is Matt, and I'm graduating with a B.S. in Neuroscience and a B.A. in Psychology. I spent my undergrad volunteering with the Horwitz Lab, a research group that studies color perception using optogenetic methods. Through my coursework, however, I discovered that I like engaging with research on mental disorders like depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. In my free time, I love to play music, which is why I served as officer and president for the Electronic Music Producers club since around the start of the pandemic. I also love running, reading books, and cooking! After graduation, I'm working as a clinical research coordinator at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai. While there, I hope to gain experience conducting research with human subjects. My long-term goal is to attain a PhD in Clinical Psychology, with the hope that someday my research will bridge the gap between our growing knowledge of brain function and current clinical treatments for mental disorders.

These past four years at UW have been an incredible experience. My time spent here has involved hours spent laying out in the quad, hundreds of walks to the health sciences building, countless coffees purchased at various campus coffee stops, thousands of Covid-19 tests given out to the UW community, and copious nights chatting with my friends. Outside of school I try to get out to nature as much as possible, hiking in the cascades, camping on the coast, or just a day at Magnuson. This fall I will move to Chicago with a few of my best friends from here and I hope to work in epidemiology research and public health community work. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to attend UW and be a part of the interdisciplinary honors program. The professors and the courses they have offered have allowed me to learn in grown in more ways than I could have every dreamed.

Proudest Moment: My most triumphant college moment wasn\\\'t one specific time, but a culmination of events that led me to not only find my voice, but also to best friends who have continually shaped my life for the better. I am ultimately grateful for the small moments in-between the triumphs and failures in which I could experience both personal and creative growth; while also being able to lean on those I love.
I am a Visual Communication Design major, obsessed with big ideas and small details. My time at UW has been comprised of leading a creative team at ASUW, getting technical with the UW Student Technology Loan Program, exploring leadership as an Honors Peer Educator, and advocating for women in sports spaces as captain of the UW Women's Club Baseball team. College was nothing like I thought it would be, it was FAR better.

Proudest Moment: Presenting my CHID capstone on war rhetoric in COVID-19 mass media at the Undergraduate Research Symposium! Speaking on a topic I have become so passionate about was truly rewarding and a great culmination of all the work that I\'ve done at the UW these past four years.
I came to UW from a small town outside of Portland, Oregon. As an aspiring physician, I thought I would major in STEM, but I soon realized my passions lie in a broader range of studies. Pursuing a double degree in Microbiology and Comparative History of Ideas has truly allowed me to explore multiple facets of medicine--from the science of disease to the unique cultures of different groups of individuals. Hey! I'm Piper, a soon-to-be graduate whose love for learning and curiosity about the world manifested into a double major in film studies and Near Eastern languages. Over my four years at UW I've taken classes in history, archaeology, classics, Russian literature, and other fascinating fields, and I've studied Persian, Arabic, and Biblical Hebrew through the NELC department. I've been an active member of the UW Film Club throughout my time here, and I've been the President's Medalist for my class three times. I'm an avid reader, so you can pretty often catch me with a book, either contemporary fiction or history. Other than that, in my free time I love trying new restaurants, being out in nature, and spending time with my family, friends, and two Pomeranians. Proudest Moment: Presenting my research on induced inflammation in the kidney, titled \"Mitochondrial-driven inflammation in aged kidneys is exacerbated by nicotinamide mononucleotide but ameliorated by elamipretide\" in a poster in a session at the National AGE Conference in Texas in May 2022.
My passion for healthcare is cultivated by the intersection of grassroots immigrant rights advocacy. Through the Jackson School I have had the opportunity to resist the limitations of traditional pathways to medical school. Instead, JSIS allowed me to engage intimately with concepts of decolonization and critical race theory, using UW itself as a site of simultaneous perpetration and healing. Through my coursework I began to draw parallels between the mechanisms of authoritarian governments, immigration enforcement systems and healthcare access - it became clear that my interests were intertwined. After graduation, I hope to pursue a MD/MPH program with the goal of better understanding and serving my role as a physician in the Seattle-area community. While I am open and expecting my interests to broaden, I am currently drawn to the field of obstetrics and gynecology where I can help womxn feel empowered, rather than diminished, by the structure of Western healthcare. Drawing from my research experience investigating renal inflammation, I am committed to further specializing in urology. The disciplines focus on the surgical and medical diseases of the urinary-tract system and reproductive organs and will address a healthcare disparity in awareness and care of pelvic floor disorders in BIPOC and immigrant womxn. I intend to draw on my experience as a womxn of color and first-generation Iranian American immigrant to address any issues of cultural hesitation or social stigma.

We created bystander intervention workshops addressing cardiac arrest and stroke, in both a virtual and in-person format, and got to see the community impact of our health advocacy work.
My time at the University of Washington has been anything but linear. From identifying an interest in health, but assuming that meant a direct path to medical school, to considering a degree in political science, to finally establishing an interest in epidemiology, I spent these four years exploring multiple disciplines. During my time here, I had the privilege to explore these interests through research at the Center for Integrative Brain Research, community based COVID-19 advocacy work, and the development of health needs assessments with the WA Department of Health. All of these experiences and new found communities led to a passion for health equity. By using my degrees to understand why people get sick, from a molecular to systemic level, I hope to reduce health disparities and increase access to important health services. Identifying this passion is one further step in my non-linear path and will serve as guidance as I pursue my next post-graduation adventure.

Hi, I'm Caroline! Coming from sunny Southern California, moving to Seattle was a bit of a change. I loved studying civil engineering, because my courses explained why our cities look the way they do. I enjoyed being able to learn a concept in class and immediately see it in practice while walking through campus. I focus on experiences that go beyond the digital screen, and I practice this using light as my main medium. At the UW, I engaged in research, where I designed bioluminescent ambient displays, studied over 500+ significant light artworks, engineered a light painting instrument, and developed interactive light installations to promote human connection. My favorite part about creating anything is seeing it go from a sketch to its physical form!

A few memories I'll treasure the most at UW include weekend trips with my best friends, cooking alongside Asian elders in the community kitchen, DJing a school event, and hosting a weekly radio show, 5 Ways 2 Eat Chicken, with my roommate. I leave UW with a deeper love for my community, a commitment to seeking joy, and a trust in myself to follow whatever I may dream. This summer, I'll be laying in the sun with my cat, drinking iced mochas, and listening to music. I'll be attending Elson S. Proudest Moment: My proudest moment was presenting my final capstone project at the Undergraduate Research Symposium on investigating the effects of dynamic loading on bone development in 3D iPSC bone tissue. It was the culmination of nearly two years of work and support from my peers!
I am graduating with a BS in Bioengineering with an Option in Data Science and a Minor in Applied Mathematics. I first found my passion for biotechnology back in high school when we studied stem cells. I followed that drive and began performing research my senior year at North Seattle Technical College on insulin production in Fungi. At the UW I performed stem cell and tissue engineering work at the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine for three years, and was awarded the Mary Gates Research Scholarship two times. I was able to pursue my dream of advancing regenerative medicine for patient treatments. I am forever grateful to the UW for providing those opportunities, and for connecting me with my wonderful peers and professors in the Bioengineering Department.

Proudest Moment: My proudest moment at UW was finishing my final assignment for college, making me the first person on either side of my family to graduate with a college degree.
My name is Alex and I graduated UW in 2022 with a double BA in Communications and Medical Anthropology & Global Health. Throughout my academic career, I've always been drawn to courses discussing justice and equity issues. I originally came to UW to do graphic design work because I am fascinated at how powerful images are at shaping our understanding of the world. I fell in love with anthropology instead. During my time at UW, I've been able to synthesize concepts covered in both my majors to strengthen ability to create effective designs that people connect with and are accessible. The culmination of my studies at UW resulted in a year-long Honors thesis project, Wine, Water, Resistance: Exploring the Coloniality of Viticulture and Indigenous Futurities, where I examine visual and textual materials from various wine companies in Eastern Washington to assess how the wine industry supports settler colonialism in the Columbia Basin and how Indigenous communities in the region resist these settler-colonial endeavors. I am a freelance artist on the side and am starting a full-time position as a Public Information Specialist at the UW Libraries following graduation.

I have always been fascinated by politics, seeing the way it shapes our lives and our world. I have spent my time at UW studying injustices, analyzing the historical and present effects of our institutions, and thinking about the ways we can create a better society. I have been so lucky to have such educational and fun experiences such as a study abroad to Sweden, job at Common Power, internship for the Middle Eastern Student Commission, and more. Honors has been instrumental in creating and helping me learn through community, providing lessons and spaces that left an immeasurable impact on my education. Knowing that community is at the center of all my passions, I look forward to graduating from UW with an emphasis on the people around me, how I can help them, and how I can learn from them.

From an early age, making sense of the world around me has meant asking hard questions about the nature of justice and power. My study of political science at the University is a natural extension of that interest; my honors experience, in turn, was my means of engaging in the work of knowledge production within the field during my undergraduate years. My thesis, entitled "On the International Supervision of Militant Democracy: Political Party Bans and the European Court of Human Rights", was awarded the Daniel S. Lev Award for Best Honors Thesis by the Department of Political Science. It provides a novel, comprehensive treatment of a body of caselaw which helps define normatively sound ways in which states may, in very limited cases, limit certain civil rights in the interest of preserving liberal democracy, giving us a means of addressing a dilemma which has significant contemporary relevance as we seek ways to guard against threats to democracy's survival -- in the United States and beyond. During my time at the UW, I was granted the pleasure of serving on high-level advisory committees within the University administration and had a sustained record of advocacy with the ASUW. Beyond the UW, I have worked for a number of nonprofits, engaging in everything from legal aid work to organizing for digital rights in the free/open-source software movement. I currently serve on multiple municipal boards and committees of the City of Bothell, WA.

There he was given the freedom to play and experiment, eventually focusing on installation art. Through this new mode of working he found greater intentionality. He has been named to the 2022 Dean's List for his excellent academic record in the College of Arts and Sciences.
