Proudest Moment: Completing my senior history thesis or publishing three analytical policy articles about civil liberties and politics in Southeast Asia in The Diplomat. It was surreal when Human Rights Watch president Kenneth Roth shared out my first article, one about the aftermath of the coup in Myanmar.
At UW, I devoted myself to learning about the histories of imperialism and the Cold War in the Third World. My courses, history and political science research, journalism work, and internships across multiple levels of policymaking helped me connect my seemingly disparate interests. While foreign policy, Asian geopolitics, human rights, migration, pop culture, and food seem unrelated, my time at UW allowed me to explore the intersections of these passions. I'm driven to understand the human condition - how we relate to one another across cultures, how we vie for power, and how we try and often fail to better our wellbeing - to discern where and how I can affect the most positive change. I hope to take the lessons I've learned into a career in federal public service. I hope to foster international cooperation to meet the challenges of our increasingly interconnected world and shape U.S. foreign policy that respects the specific cultural, social, and political contexts of a given place.

Proudest Moment: I sewed a mummy style sleeping bag made entirely out of recycled materials -- used down and an old spinnaker sail!
Hi there! I'm Amelia. In creating my honors portfolio, I was really encouraged to intentionally reflect on my college experience, and explore the interconnectedness of all of my (seemingly) disparate parts. Examples of this included connecting the ways that I approach social issues (specifically in the social determinants of health) to the ways that I tackle conducting repairs for broken materials, to navigating other boats on a racecourse after a rocky start sailboat racing. The common theme I found through all of this is that intentional CARE is an important place to start from, and the rest comes naturally. I have learned to invest my time and energy in the things and spaces I enjoy, even if they aren't perfect- in fact, especially if they aren't perfect. My care is worth something, and I can put it to good use shaping the spaces I am a part of into something I am incredibly proud of!

I graduated from the University of Washington with a BS in Public Health-Global Health. I worked at the Veterans Affairs at the Banks/Erickson lab on a project focused on senolytic drugs as a treatment for Alzheimer's Disease. This opportunity allowed me to receive the Mary Gates Research Scholarship twice, Levinson's Emerging Scholar's Grant, meet US Under Secretary James Kvaal to talk about the importance of financial support in research, and also allowed me to participate in a video directed by the Undergraduate Academic Affairs to talk about my experiences with reseaarch at the UW. As a Public Health major, I have been particularly interested in Substance Misuse-participating in policy prevention scans and conducting research in the Honors program. These experiences have helped me develop my interest in research and have helped me transition into my current work at the University of Washington and the Veterans Hospital on alcohol pharmacotherapy and medication for opioid use disorder.

Proudest Moment: Playing Tchaikovsky Symphony 6 with the UW Symphony Orchestra in my freshman year was one of my favorite memories. I put a lot of practice towards it, and it was one of the first times I had played with a full orchestra.
I am graduating with a B.S. in Plant Biology and Environmental Science. As someone from the Pacific Northwest, I am excited to begin a career researching and managing our natural resources and beautiful ecosystems. During my undergrad, I did a research project in the Strömberg paleobotany and paleoecology lab. I love work and research that brings me out into the field. Outside of school, I have run down nearly every street surrounding campus, biked many miles throughout Washington, and played viola in some amazing classical and baroque ensembles.

Proudest Moment: Presenting my research at the Undergraduate Research Symposium in 2023. The presentation was a culmination of all my research work in the past 1.5 years. I am really excited to continue my research through the BS/MS program at the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering!
I came to the UW uncertain about whether computer science was fit for me. Luckily, I was inspired by the interdisciplinary nature of computer science and the scalable impact it could have on society. As such, I decided to study computer science and political science during college. Since sophomore year, I have conducted research under the supervision of Dr. Tanu Mitra in the Information School - I studied the effects of geolocation on the amount of COVID-19 misinformation returned by YouTube. Through this work, I was awarded the Mary Gates Research Scholarship, nominated for the Computing Research Association's Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Award, named the Husky 100, and won the Undergraduate Research Symposium's Population Health Recognition Award. Outside of academics and research, I co-founded the Polling and Open Data Initiative and served in Computing Community through all four years of college. Through this work, I was awarded Allen School's Undergraduate Service Award.

Proudest Moment: Receiving the President's Medal, an award given to 2 graduating seniors with the most distinguished academic records. It was such a great honor receiving this award as recognition for my hard work. During graduation, I sat on stage with the Dean's and President\'s parties in front of thousands of people, and met many amazing people.
I graduated from UW with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Oceanography with college honors and summa cum laude. I am one of the President's Medalists for the class of 2023 and a NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Scholar. During my time at UW, I conducted undergraduate research including Dr. Anitra Ingalls's oceanography lab and the Institute for Marine Remote Sensing in Florida. In the future, I plan to continue doing biochemical oceanography research and to become a professor of oceanography. In addition, I was an intern on the Marine Science team at foundry10, a philanthropic educational research organization, as well as a member of the Environmental Health team of the Mayor's Youth Commission of Tacoma, and am passionate about spreading awareness about marine environmental issues. I entered the University of Washington at the age of 16 through the Robinson Center for Young Scholars UW Academy program, and was active as a mentor for new UW Academy students for two years. I was also on the Traditional Chinese Dance team at UW, and really loved meeting so many amazing people and making such great connections and memories at UW.

I am a black queer creator who majored in Drama: Performance and International Studies to find the intersection of those two fields. I am interested in how theatre and film can serve as a site of community healing and informing policy. I am grateful to the Honors Program for teaching me how to have an interdisciplinary approach to problem solving and how to think about the world in a various different ways. In using what I learned through Honors, I had the chance to perform a spoke word piece by Joseph C Philips Jr. inspired by Langston Hughes' poem Let America Be America Again with classical pianist Simone Dinnerstein, and my task force on space policy made it all the way to the desk of the director of the National Space Council in the White House.

Hi, I'm Marton, a graduate of economics and philosophy from UW in 2023. For at least the next year, I will be living on the small southern Japanese island of Tanegashima where I will be participating in the JET program and teaching English in primary schools. My goals in the long term and after my stint in Japan are getting into a Top 14 law school and getting a job at a law firm. My 3-year journey at UW has been filled with many great memories and notable events. During my time at UW, I made the Dean's List in every quarter, qualified for college honors, and got published in the philosophy undergraduate journal, the Garden of Ideas. My extracurricular activities included being a resident adviser for two years, working as a student barista at the Mercer Court Husky Grind, and participating in the Judo Club at the University of Washington. I brought my extensive judo and leadership experience to UW's judo club and was able to achieve several notable placements including a third-place finish at the 2023 Pacific International tournament, and 5th place at the 2023 NCJA Championships. Additionally, I served as the judo club's treasurer for one term during the 2022-2023 academic year where I led multiple fundraising efforts to secure grants and various funds for the club. In my spare time, I enjoy exercising with friends, playing CATAN, and occasionally playing video games online.

Proudest Moment: My proudest moment iat UW is when I got accepted into the honors program. Being the first in my family to go to college, I didn\'t expect to be where I am today, let alone participate in academic research. Since enrolling in the program, I\'ve gained a sense of purpose and achievement, and valuable experience and connections that I will take with me for the rest of my life.
The biggest accomplishment I've made in my life is my immigration journey to the States. Moving by myself has been a big challenge and I have nothing but gratitude for the people who supported me along the way, including my family and my partner, and my partner's family. Since moving, I've been able to learn so much about myself, especially these past few years. In my free time I like to read and listen to books, as well as play narrative-driven video games to inspire my own creativity. I try to express my creative side through baking and writing. Having space to grow, learn, and play has opened my eyes and heart to so many new ideas, that I've begun to truly understand the value of incorporating play into my daily life.

Proudest Moment: Utilizing the culmination of my hard work through the honors program to propose, research, compose, and present my senior thesis!
I'm an aspiring copy editor and writer looking for challenging and diversifying work! When I'm not focusing on academics/working, I can be found tending to my garden, trying new recipes, and tending to my creatures: tarantulas, frogs, and fish! I'm elated that I chose to attend the honors program, as it's allowed for me to make connections with students and professors that would be otherwise impossible, or at least more difficult. For now, I'm intending on breaking into the workforce; I'm also studying for the LSAT and am excited to see what opportunities life presents me.
