Dialogue Across the Disciplines
Before you all head off to your exciting summer plans, we want to let you know about a great new opportunity offered by Honors for those looking to delve into more interdisciplinary dialogue about pressing issues and events. "Dialogue Across the Disciplines" is a pilot project seeking to raise and address a wide array of big questions that require multifaceted and interdisciplinary approaches through an engaging dialogue around the questions and proposed solutions.
The project has three key objectives: 1) gather questions from students, faculty, staff, and the larger community. 2) facilitate interdisciplinary inquiry that engages diverse perspectives; and 3) create dialogue around the questions and the proposed solutions.
The intended outcome of the project lies not in a formal presentation of the questions and their solutions, though this will happen, but rather aims to create opportunities for dialogue on critical topics of interest. Discussion forums will also facilitate networking and community building among students, alums, and the UW and local communities.
As you consider the year ahead, think about the engaging questions that fascinate you (find some examples of the questions we have in mind on our Current Questions page) and submit a proposal identifying possible solutions and methods for approaching these issues. Participants may also propose their own questions. At the end of each quarter next year, one of the selected proposals will be chosen for a $500 award, made available thanks to a generous donor. Proposals must be submitted by the first Friday of each quarter and you will be notified of a decision by Friday of the third week at the very latest. Submit a proposal as early as this fall quarter (the deadline is October 3, 2014) and begin developing engaging dialogue surrounding relevant, interdisciplinary issues!
