Frances McCue on Fulbright Fellowship
Honors professor and writer in residence Frances McCue just received a Fulbright Fellowship to Marrakech, Morocco. At Cadi Ayyad University, she will teach American Literature and Writing, and she will advise on a new arts and cultural center that the university is creating. (Frances was the co-founder of Richard Hugo House, Seattle's house for writers, and the Founding Director there for ten years before coming to the Honors program.) As part of her Fulbright, she'll also work on a collection of poems.
"This will be a wonderful chance to represent the United States in a non-militaristic way, using arts and culture as a way to start dialogue. I'm eager to learn how to be a citizen in a foreign place. Global education, after all, happens globally. You have to go to other places and to participate fully with the people who live there. But I'll miss the Honors students and will look forward to returning in 2009-2010."
