I am a senior at the University of Washington, Seattle, majoring in Communication with departmental honors and minoring in Entrepreneurship. My academic journey includes engaging in two distinct undergraduate research projects: one in Communication and another in Marketing. I am in both interdisciplinary and departmental honors and am writing a thesis in the Art History department. I am currently an intern at The Henry Art Gallery and Co-Manager of the ASUW Student Food co-op. I'm also a photojournalist for The Daily and work on an Architecture research project called Bird Friendly UW. My past experience includes interning at a non-profit, working as a marketing intern at multiple orgs., and participating in the Honors Peer Mentoring and Honors Community Ambassador Program. I hope to work in cultural heritage institutions post grad and plan on going to grad school as well! In my free time, I love to do yoga, use the sewing machines at the mill, or grab a coffee with my friends on the ave (I have some great recommendations). I am an in-state student from the small town of Camas (right across the river from Portland, OR) and I have loved being up in Seattle for the past four years! Being a part of the Honors program has given me endless opportunities during college, including peer mentorship, studying abroad in Rome last winter, being a peer facilitator this fall, and the numerous amazing courses that have broadened my knowledge in topics I wouldn't have explored prior. My hometown of Pullman, Washington is near the Washington-Idaho border, and Seattle has been a great change of pace. The Honors Program has also provided me with a lot of cool experiences, including studying abroad in Sweden. I also feel like I have gained new perspectives in every honors class I have taken, leading to several new interests in material culture, Seattle history and infrastructure, education, and communication! Outside of classwork, I am a student researcher at a microbiology lab and am part of a few clubs on campus. I was born in India, but I've moved around quite a bit in the United States-- going from the South to the Midwest and finally to here in the Pacific-Northwest! In my first quarter here at UW, I took Honors General Chemistry (CHEM 145), Women in Greek and Roman Antiquity (HONORS 394A), and Russia's Big Books (HONORS 240A). Outside of schoolwork, I've been a member of the Terry Hall Council, Music for Charity, and Honors Community Ambassadors. I especially love literature, so as a STEM major I truly appreciate the opportunity the Honors program gives me to explore both of my interests in an interdisciplinary manner. I am particularly passionate about the sociology of stigma, moral panics, and deviance, as well as the history of housing policy and community health. I joined UW Honors because of the opportunity to have engaging, in-depth discussions of topics across disciplines within a smaller network of peers on campus. Honors has truly become my "home base" on campus, and I'm so excited to lead HONORS 100 to introduce incoming students to that same sense of community. I am originally from Issaquah, WA, a suburb about thirty minutes east of campus. I was part of the Honors LLC in Terry my freshman year, and now live with three roommates off-campus. I'm a member of the Interdisciplinary Honors Program and a current Honors Peer Facilitator, as well as a past resident of the Honors LLC. In addition to my major, I'm incredibly passionate about learning about and engaging with Health Equity topics and Public Health, which I find ways to either sneak into my classes or into my extra curriculars. I also love taking American Ethnic Studies courses - whether that turns into a Double Degree or a minor, I guess we'll have to wait and find out!
