In Honors since: 2023

Hometown: Phoenix, Arizona

About me: Hi! My name is Clara McAdams, I am a current third year student at the UW, majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Bioethics. Along with pursuing Interdisciplinary Honors, I am planning to pursue Departmental Honors through the Neuroscience program and have the post-grad goal of medical school. I am super passionate about youth advocacy, medicine, and the brain. I am from lots of places, but I attended high school in Phoenix, Arizona, and my family is now up here with me in Browns Point, Washington. You can find me around campus down at UW Med doing research in their NICU, working with Grey Matters in HSEB, chugging coffee literally anywhere, or at any of the "hot spots" of campus as a Tour Guide! By far, the Interdisciplinary Honors Program is my favorite community that I am a part of at the UW. I have had the opportunity to engage in a vast array of subjects, converse with star-studded professors, and connect with the coolest people on campus (the Honors students). Reach out and let's chat!!

Activities

Study Abroad: I studied abroad this summer in Berlin with a professor I took an Honors class with!

Research: I am currently conducting research with UW Medicine in their NICU. It is a database project all about optimizing neonatal nutrition outcomes.

Volunteering/Service: Each summer I volunteer with HOBY both in state and in Chicago at their seminars (summer camp-like) to empower high school students in their leadership and global engagement.

Leadership: I am on leadership for Grey Matters and will be their Outreach Director in the fall, leading the Outreach Leadership team that coordinates all things GM Outreach.

Departmental Honors: I will be pursuing Departmental Honors through Neuroscience as well as Interdisciplinary Honors (College Honors).

Clubs/RSOs: I am a part of Grey Matters, an RSO all about making neuroscience accessible. I contribute to this on Outreach where we go into schools to do sheep brain dissections and neurotech demonstrations.

Pre-health: I will be attending medical school after graduation. My interests currently lie in neurology, pediatrics, and neonatology.

Campus Jobs: I work for the UW Office of Admissions as a Campus Tour Guide. I love everything about introducing guests to the UW campus and community!
