This course will survey Hinduism from its beginnings to modern times, introducing the most influential cults, ideals, praxes and institutions. Developments will be studied more or less chronologically, emphasizing those aspects that are directly relevant to to current attitudes and practices. Participants are expected to prepare the readings assigned to each lecture
and to answer weekly question sheets in preparation for the exams.

Evaluation: class participation and weekly question sheets (10%); midterm exam (20%);
final exam (30%); final paper (40%)
