SLN ?
This is a course about working towards a future we want to live in. In a time of tumult and hardship, it’s easier to fall into visions of an imaginary past than an imagined positive future. In Visions of the Future, we’ll decide what future(s) we want and think seriously about how to get there.
Leaning into conversation as a structure for thinking, we’ll build an understanding of buried histories and contemporary systems, using social science sources, oral histories, and documentary. Through imaginative literature of many types (poetry, fiction, futurism, queer theory, etc), each student will flesh out their own idea of a forward-looking ethos in a variety of media throughout the quarter.
With the help of the Odegaard Library Sound Studio and Partners in Print, students will make broadsheets, podcasts, and videos to explore their imagined futures, culminating in a major group project at the end of the quarter.
