Kristi Govella (Jackson School of International Studies)

Kristi Govella is a Lecturer in the Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington, as well as Senior Fellow and Deputy Director of the Asia Program at The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF). Her work focuses on the interrelationship between politics, economics, and security, and she is currently engaged in a number of projects to topics such as economics-security linkages, regional institutional architecture, non-traditional security, and the global commons. Dr. Govella has co-directed two study abroad programs for the University of Washington Honors Program. Her publications include Linking Trade and Security: Evolving Institutions and Strategies in Asia, Europe, and the United States (2013) and Responding to a Resurgent Russia: Russian Policy and Responses from Europe and the United States (2012). Prior to joining GMF, Dr. Govella was an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University, and an Associate Professor at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies. She holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.A. in Political Science and Japanese, Cum Laude with College Honors, from the University of Washington.
