Sound Collaboratory in the making

Students of Honors courses “Sounds of Social Justice: Making Scenes, Building Communities” and “Feminism in the Borderlands” were incorporated into Daphne Brooks’ Distinguished Katz Lecture and the Sound Collaboratory by Live-Blogging from Party in the Archives: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1wxtvRrFxqwawHWU1WyqAIX90ZbyVQyKHQ38oq-wCgR0/edit?usp=sharing

In collective work groups, students selected a chapter from Daphne Brooks’s Liner Notes for the Revolution: The Intellectual Life of Black Feminist Sound in addition to chapters from Maureen Mahon’s Black Diamond Queens: Black Women in Rock, Alex Vazquez’s Listening in Detail: Cuban Music and an article on Sister Rosetta Tharp by Gaye Wald.

Through this activity, students were incorporated into Daphne Brooks Distinguished Katz Lecture and the Sound Collaboratory Symposium: https://simpsoncenter.org/article/daphne-brooks-sound-collaboratory.
