Honors Huskies Organize with HOPE

In honor of the start of Black History Month, HOPE and BSU are welcoming Elmer Dixon, the Co-Founder of the Seattle Black Panther Party, to discuss the local and national histories of the Black Power movement and ongoing Black Freedom Struggles. The event aims to recognize Black resistance and liberation efforts while acknowledging the way that policing, surveillance, and the criminal legal system use incarceration as a weapon to upload systematic racism.

Honors Husky Katie Rose Wilbur has a message to students who are interested in the event: “This is a unique opportunity to hear from someone who has not only been directly impacted, but has made history. Whether you already have a strong background on the subject or are just learning about it for the first time, we welcome you to join us in solidarity in whatever capacity you are able to and work with us to build a future to break all cages and free all prisoners across the globe.”
