Honors Poets Read at University Book Store

On June 5th, Honors students will be reading their poetry at University Book Store. Taught by Dr. Arthur Ginsberg, these students are part of Honors 398: The Brain & The Healing Power Of Poetry, which introduces students to the role of poetry in dealing with illness and grief, and where poetry originates in the human brain. Students write their own poems in a workshop setting, culminating in a book that is published at the end of the semester.

Dr. Arthur Ginsberg shared his experience with leading this group of students through this poetry course: “Poetry in its oral and written form has spanned the ages, allowing human beings to share their deepest emotions across all cultures and races. It has been my honor to observe the students of Honors 398 develop their skills as writers in a workshop setting, to explore where poetry comes from in the brain, and to express their truth as they worked together as a team to assemble a book of their poems, titled, “We Mend” in the course of 10 weeks. In this time of upheaval and division, poetry through the expression of grief can shine a light on hope.”

The event is free to attend and will start at 6pm. Show up to support your fellow Honors students and your local bookstore!
