Honors A&O Information

Honors Advising & Orientation Sessions

Once you commit to UW and Honors, you are required to register for an Advising & Orientation (A&O) session. These two-day sessions are designed to introduce you to the University, to other students and UW staff, and help you choose and register for Autumn quarter classes. The Honors Program has reserved space for students in several sessions throughout the summer. If you attend the UW, we encourage you to sign up as soon as possible for one of the Honors sessions below, as space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can begin reserving your A&O session when the reservation system launches on June 5th, 2024.

At these Honors sessions you will get all the information of a regular A&O, and will also be meet other incoming Honors students, learn about the Honors requirements, and get academic guidance and registration assistance from the Honors Program staff. In order to manage system demands, new students are assigned a date and time to make their A&O reservation. All students will receive their reservation appointment in their UW email.

A&O Part 2 Honors Dates

Honors Kickoff
Honors A&O – a fun introduction to the UW and your Honors community.

While the UW offers many date options for A&O Part 2, in 2024 the two Honors sessions are:

  • July 15/16
  • July 31/ August 1

Honors students should try to attend one of these specific Honors sessions, but if you have been directly admitted to the Foster School of Business, the College of Engineering, or Computer Science, you will be required to attend that major’s A&O session. If you absolutely cannot make the Honors A&O dates you should sign up for the session that works best for you. The Honors Program will contact you before your A&O date to provide you with the Honors-specific information you will need to successfully register for Honors courses.

A&O Part 3: Community Connection & Dawg Daze

During Dawg Daze (late September) you will have the opportunity to visit the Honors suite and meeting Honors staff, current students, and faculty as we welcome you to UW and the Honors community. Stay tuned during summer for more information about this opportunity.

Common Questions

Great! I have accepted my invitation and am joining the UW Honors Program. I’d like to sign up for one of the Honors A&O sessions. What should I do next?

Welcome! Registering for a summer advising session is easy. Just visit fyp.washington.edu and select the earliest Honors Advising & Orientation program (dates listed above) that fits your schedule.

I already replied to the UW and accepted their invitation. I’ve also already selected a non-Honors summer A&O date. What should I do?

We highly recommend that you change your date to an Honors date. You are welcome to change your summer Advising & Orientation dates up until two weeks prior to the first day of the program you’ve previously selected. Changes made after this deadline will incur a $20 fee. Return to the First Year Programs registration website and select the earliest Honors Advising & Orientation program that fits your schedule. Spaces will fill on a first-come, first-served basis, so be aware that your first choice date may be full.

I absolutely, positively cannot make one of the sessions above. What should I do?

We strongly encourage you to do all you can to attend an Honors date, not only to ensure you get all the Honors-specific information necessary, but also so you can start building your Honors community with staff and other students. However, if your summer schedule absolutely precludes your attendance in one of the Honors sessions, contact First Year Programs to register for a non-Honors orientation date. We will contact students not registered for Honors A&O sessions to arrange for you to receive the Honors-specific information you missed.
